Fuel feed to any process is central to its efficiency and performance. Delivering the exact amount of fuel and the ability to respond to process variations are key to realizing process efficiency and improving operating costs.
The increase of renewable, recycled and biomass fuels perhaps in conjunction with co-firing has greatly increased the complexity of fuel feed systems and the technologies required to accurately feed across a wide range of operational parameters. Processes today may have to cater with fuels where quality is fairly uniform such as pulverized coal and also newer forms of fuel such as Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF or RDF) where the fuel quality can vary greatly.
The most effective solution may be a mixture of different phases of pneumatic conveying (lean or dense) in conjunction with very accurate feeders and a complex mechanical conveying system.
