Jaworzno III is a 1.535 MW hard coal-fired power plant that went into commercial operation in 1976. Tauron Polska Energia, the owner and operator of the plant, awarded a consortium of Rafako and Mostostal Warszawa in January 2013 the turnkey contract for the construction of a new 910 MW unit to replace older blocks. The new plant is forecasted to generate approximately 6 TWh of electricity per annum and will be equipped with ultra-supercritical steam technology (USC). Using high steam pressure and higher temperature, the applied USC-technology ensures improved plant efficiency, resulting in low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
CBP, Clyde Bergemann’s strong and experienced local subsidiary, obtained the order for the delivery and installation of the boiler cleaning and the associated controls technology. With a wide product range and broad knowledge, Clyde Bergemann was able to offer precisely the right solution for this application.
Eight SMART Cannon water cannons will be installed to clean the furnace. The water jet creates a meander shaped pattern on the side and opposite wall of the furnace with exact and reproducible cleaning patterns. With its horizontal and vertical blowing arc each of 90°, a single water cannon may generally increase the cleaning coverage in the boiler from 30% with that by traditional wall blowers up to 90%.
Additionally, 100 PS-H type retractable sootblowers are installed for the cleaning of the superheater and reheater. They are particularly useful for areas with heavy fouling and high flue gas temperatures up to 1,500 °C. For sectors with light to medium fouling and flue gas temperatures up to 800 °C, use is made of additional 30 PS-HB part retractable sootblowers. Further to that, 24 PS-AR rake sootblowers are utilized to clean SCR catalysts and another 4 PS-A multimedia sootblowers for the cleaning of heat exchanger surfaces in the air preheater.
The combined use of these cleaning systems ensures extended boiler availability, increased boiler efficiency and an efficient operation of the plant.
Delivery and commissioning are scheduled for 2017 and 2018.
„I am delighted that we received this important order and thereby further strengthen our market presence in Poland and in the market for boiler efficiency systems in general“, said Franz Bartels, President & CEO of Clyde Bergemann Power Group.
“This significant order for the delivery of cleaning systems for the largest power unit to be ever built by Rafako is a visible sign of a long, successful cooperation between both companies and emphasizes that CBP is a reliable and trustful business partner”, states Piotr Zarmutek, Managing Director of Clyde Bergemann Polska.
