Added value along the process chain
Optimization of a boiler’s process is quite complex and often a properly tuned boiler set up for one operating condition (fuel blend, firing rate, mill combination, etc.) does not give repeatable results for a different set of operating parameters. Clyde Bergemann looks into boiler process optimization as a whole and provides the most effective solution for plant’s specific operational Goal.
As the heat exchanging process starts in the furnace, it is imperative that proper evaluation of the combustion system is necessary. The combustion process is complex and subject to numerous influencing factors. Even minor changes in key process parameters can have large impacts on plant efficiency and availability.
Clyde Bergemann has applied technology to simulate the complete combustion process in detail and to predict the effects of changing parameters on efficiency, emissions, corrosion and deposit formation before they become real.
These process insights also support the application of the entire product range of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group, comprising of systems for on-load boiler cleaning and ash handling. Design, positioning and operation of these systems are directly and indirectly influenced by the combustion process.
Clyde Bergemann Power Group has already been considering engineering related interrelations in its research and development activities. The reason for this is the awareness that the more systems are aligned with process needs, the more they make a positive contribution to the plant efficiency and availability at reduced emission Level.
If the combustion system is well designed and properly tuned, the next process aspect to focus on is the boiler cleanliness and cleaning system evaluation. Such analysis consists of a comprehensive look into the boiler’s operating data and identifying the peak efficiencies available through improved cleaning and optimization systems. Therefore Clyde Bergemann uses different sensor and software solutions to identify and analyse the current deposit situation in the whole boiler. For example, online thermodynamic modelling can be used to analyse the heat transfer performance and to quantify the opportunity for improvement in each section of the boiler.
Boiler Combustion Simulation with CFD Boiler Modelling, Remote Performance Monitoring*, Boiler Evaluations, online or offline Thermodynamic Modelling are some of the services that can be provided by CBPG to have an initial look into the boiler process and identify technological solutions to recover any potential gains.
*Remote Performance Monitoring service is provided by the CBPG America’s Boiler Efficiency Division.
